Chasing liberty
The story goes that in 1527 explorers came to the New World in search of Cíbola after its first discovery, but were never able to find it. Ben hardly convinces Patrick to arrange a meeting with Dr. Emily Appleton, who happens to be Ben’s mother and Patrick’s ex-wife. Emily is able to translate part of the tablet, but claims that the message is incomplete. Abigail uses her current boyfriend Conner, a member of the White House staff, to allow Ben to sneak into the Oval Office, but Ben finds the Resolute desk compartment empty except for a symbol (an eagle with a scroll) representing the supposed idea that the “Book of Secrets” exists.
Ben, Patrick, Abigail and Riley arrive at Mount Rushmore, prepared to confront Mitch, but discover that Mitch is using Emily as a hostage to ensure that Ben follows definitive clues about an old letter sent from Queen Victoria to Confederate General Albert Pike. Ben is able to find the secret entrance, and the group avoids several traps before reaching the subway site of Cíbola, the city of gold.

Al igual que su predecesora, la película recibió críticas mixtas debido a su excesivo parecido con la primera, pero fue un éxito de taquilla, recaudando más de 459 millones de dólares en todo el mundo. El 14 de abril de 1865, cinco días después del final de la Guerra Civil estadounidense, John Wilkes Booth y Michael O’Laughlen entran en una taberna de Washington, D.C., y se acercan a Thomas Gates para descifrar un mensaje en el diario de Booth. Thomas reconoce que el mensaje utiliza la clave Playfair y comienza a traducirlo. Mientras lo hace, Booth parte hacia el Teatro Ford para asesinar al presidente estadounidense Abraham Lincoln. Thomas resuelve el enigma y se da cuenta de que los hombres son miembros de los Caballeros del Círculo de Oro y son simpatizantes de la Confederación. Se produce una pelea y Thomas recibe un disparo.
