The transformation of Monte de Piedad y Caja de Ahorros de Ronda, Cádiz, Almería, Antequera, Málaga and Jaén (hereinafter, “Unicaja”) into Fundación Bancaria Unicaja (hereinafter, the “Foundation”) took place in November 2014, in compliance with Law 26/2013, of December 27, on Savings Banks and Banking Foundations.
The essential purpose of the Foundation is the promotion and development of social, charitable, welfare, educational and/or cultural works. The Foundation carries out its activity both directly and, complementarily, through Fundación Unicaja, Fundación Unicaja-Ronda and Fundación Social Caja Provincial de Ahorros de Jaén, each of which has a specific vocation and profile of action, foundations in which the Foundation has inherited the status of founder, following the transformation of Unicaja into a banking foundation.
In exercising its rights as a controlling shareholder of Unicaja Banco, the Foundation ensures, among other aspects, the sound and prudent management of the Bank, promoting that the maintenance of the business model inherited from Unicaja contributes to the harmonious economic and social development of its traditional territories. All this with the mission of making Unicaja Banco financially efficient in the long term, so that the dividends it distributes are adequate and sustainable over time and, in the case of the Foundation, allow it to adequately meet the Foundation’s objectives.
