La merced vallecas

Work begins on the development of the bonàrea land.
“This restaurant was made by my parents. They worked from sunrise to sunset. I studied to be a teacher, but when my father died in 1991 I started here, but in the back, making desserts, coffees, I didn’t like to show my face”, reveals Mercedes García, owner and head waitress. Over time, shyness gave way to an enthusiasm for the trade and for the contact with the clientele. Today she can be seen smiling in photos with elite athletes, presenters, journalists, etc.; and when the hustle and bustle begins, she can be seen in her element, happy, especially in the dining room, where she attends to each table in the old-fashioned way.
“My mother used to sing the menu to the customers and now I do it myself; I like to transmit what we do here,” says Mercedes. She takes the orders from all the tables and recites the suggestions she has written down on a piece of paper. From outside, you can see how people try to retain the descriptions, each one more suggestive than the next, and make a decision. It’s the hardest part of being a customer at ‘La Merced’. “I love my job. I take notes from everyone and the time I spend with people is the same for everyone.”

In the historic heart of Vallecas Villa shines with its own light ‘La Merced’, gastronomic reference of the popular neighborhood. At the head of the restaurant is Mercedes García Egido, a teacher turned restaurateur, whose parents founded, just two decades ago, this successful restaurant. It is divided into two parts: one dedicated to tapas and the other to the restaurant and, when the good weather arrives, a terrace emerges.
Juan Carlos Alonso has been in charge of the kitchen almost since the inauguration. The cuisine is classic market cuisine, made at the moment, which will delight the most demanding palates. Let yourself be advised by Mercedes, who sings each dish in her own voice with sympathy and Vallecan self-confidence. The customer, mostly regulars, accepts the recommendations.
New breaths must be invented – roberto juarroz
The arrival of Antoine Griezmann at Atletico Madrid is a great leap in sporting terms, one of the best strikers in Europe is recovered, but at the same time it means an obvious institutional wear. You don’t have to be very perceptive to realize that not all the Atlético’s fans have welcomed the Frenchman’s return to the Metropolitano.
In the club they know it and have been for days with a kind of ‘washing of the player’s image’ in social networks. He has been received as if nothing had happened, as if there was no dark side to this story, but the reality is different. The departure of the Frenchman, who was an idol at Atletico, was rough and very ugly, leaving for a direct rival in a bad way.
Something that led many fans to give him the cross. It is no coincidence that when he returned to Barcelona the Metropolitano chanted “Griezmann, die!” or that his plaque on the Paseo de Leyendas was stained day after day with stickers, drinks and even stuffed rats.
