With the explosion, 8,000 tons of steel fell on the skeleton of the power plant at 15:00 hours this Thursday, leaving behind a column of smoke and dust that replaced the 40 meters high, 27 meters wide and 13 meters deep boiler that once powered the operation of Anllares.
This is the third explosion since the dismantling process of Anllares began, after the chimney, one of the most recognizable elements of the plant, ‘fell’ in the same way on November 25.
Prior to today’s demolition, preparatory work was carried out to weaken the structure so that blasting would be safe and produce the least possible environmental impact. In addition, a 400-meter safety perimeter protected the area around the blast.
In compliance with the safety measures applicable to this blasting, all the buildings and warehouses of the power plant were evacuated, the traffic on the road in the vicinity of the plant was interrupted and the relevant warnings were made to the competent authorities, to the Town Council of Páramo del Sil and to the Anllares Neighborhood Council. They also verified the absence of bird nests, as well as other species that could be affected.
