Fervenza de brañas

Galician waterfalls | fervenza de brañas

The beginning of the route is as in almost all its route by wide forest tracks where we walk without difficulty. At kilometer one we pass through the village of Buxán, where we can find loose dogs. In this village begins the first loop of the route, the PR-G 166.1, we continue along the path on the left to return later on the other side.
We begin to close the loop crossing the river Furelos and walking on the other side, from where we will have panoramic views of the fervenza in the distance. Although further on there is a viewpoint, the best views of the waterfall are before we start to descend, near kilometer seven.
We continue downstream to the previous crossing at the picnic area and return along the same path until we turn off onto the PR-G 166.1. This detour is the hardest part of the route because we have to overcome a good slope and we can find water and mud along the way. Once we reach Buxán we will return again by the road to the starting point.

To get to the beginning of the route, once we arrive at the center of Toques we must turn right if we arrive from Melide where it indicates Mangoeiro, San Xulián or Vilamor and about 500 meters on the left hand side we will see the start panel.

San Andrés de Teixido, one of the essential things to see in the Rías Altas, is the most important pilgrimage center in Galicia after Santiago de Compostela. It is curious that to a village that barely reaches 50 inhabitants in winter, sheltered among the highest cliffs of continental Europe, thousands of pilgrims arrive every summer. And for me it is undoubtedly among the most beautiful villages of Galicia.
San Andrés de Teixido can be reached by car easily from Cedeira in about half an hour. But I’ll tell you in advance that this is not going to happen. As soon as you look at the map you will realize that the way there is so beautiful that you have to make stops. So take your time and enjoy the ride.
The other option to get to San Andrés de Teixido is to do it walking, as many pilgrims do. The ideal is to start in Cedeira and ask someone to pick you up in Teixido, as the round trip is not very feasible in one day. Doing the route to San Andrés de Teixido on foot is fine. But in the opposite direction it is not necessary.
