The Oza Valley is a natural and traditional region, located in the south of the region of El Bierzo, in the province of León, within the municipality of Ponferrada. It is crossed by the river from which the region derives its name, the river Oza (Valdueza, Oza Valley), which rises in the village of Montes de Valdueza, in the Montes Aquilanos and flows into the river Sil. In several publications it is accepted that villages that are not in the valley formed by the Oza river belong to this region.
It was the cradle of the Tebaida Berciana (so called because of the temples that were located in that area, which reminded, by their quantity, the Egyptian Thebes),[citation needed] being indicated its limited protection, administratively, within the Oza Valley although the area it covers is much larger.
Leaving Ponferrada, take the direction that leads to the neighborhood of Boeza Bridge, crossing the bridge, take the road to the left. After 100 meters there is another crossroads, take the road to the left.
Peñalba de santiago
Located in the traditional region of Valdueza. The village is located in the heart of the Montes Aquilanos, hence its proximity to emblematic places in the area such as the Morredero, Pico Tuerto or Cabeza de la Yegua.
Leaving Ponferrada through the district of Puente Boeza, take the road to San Lorenzo del Bierzo in the direction of San Esteban de Valdueza. When you reach the crossroads just before this village, take the detour to the left and continue along a narrow and winding road. After crossing Valdefrancos we finally arrive at San Clemente de Valdueza.
