La Devesa da Rogueira es la joya ecológica de la sierra, con 3 kilómetros cuadrados de bosque primario y una increíble diversidad de árboles. La fauna no tiene nada que envidiar a la flora. Los arroyos que bajan formando cascadas contienen especies autóctonas del norte de la Península, como el tritón ibérico o la rana ibérica. La devesa protege al corzo, a la garduña, a la comadreja, al turón, a la garduña, al gato montés y al lirón.
Uno de los grandes atractivos del paraje natural de O Courel es la ruta de senderismo que allí se encuentra. El punto de partida es el pequeño salón de la naturaleza de Moreda, donde hay una exposición permanente que pretende dar información sobre las rutas y caminos que se pueden seguir en la zona y dar a conocer los valores ecológicos de la sierra y las costumbres de la gente. La primera parte de la ruta es bastante fácil y llana. Hay muchos paneles a lo largo del camino que muestran la biología de la devesa.

With 3 square kilometers of primary forest and a great arboreal diversity, the Devesa da Rogueira is one of the ecological treasures of the Serra do Courel in Lugo and one of the enclaves with the greatest natural wealth of Galicia.
The best known is the PR-G 222 Ruta da Devesa da Rogueira, a circular trail of 9.5 km that can be extended to 13.3 km if the detours to As Fontes do Cervo and the viewpoint of Pico Polín are included. The trail starts at the Aula da Natureza (click to see location), located in the village of Moreda, six km from Seoane do Courel.
Before returning to the starting point, it is advisable to take a detour to A Fonte do Cervo, also called Fonte da Fame, formed by two springs that flow from a rocky wall, one of calcareous water and the other of ferruginous water. This detour, added to that of the Pico Polín viewpoint, will lengthen our route by almost 4 km, but in exchange will offer us incomparable views of the Serra do Courel.
Taking as a reference the town of Quiroga (click for location), we must follow the LU-651 road towards Seoane do Courel and, before reaching this town, take the detour to the right that indicates the town of Moreda.

You will come across a sign inviting you to go to the “Fontes do Cervo”. Pay attention to it, because it will take you a few meters to a waterfall that feeds the stream. Two different waters flow from here: one with crystalline and calcareous waters and the other, ferruginous, with a very different taste and color.

La Ferrería de Seoane (o Locay) es uno de los edificios civiles más importantes de la montaña, aunque su visita no es posible salvo en días muy concretos. Fundada en 1808 a orillas del río Lor para abastecer de cañones y armas militares al ejército de la época, aprovechaba la fuerza de éste para dar movimiento a la maquinaria. Por un lado, el agua movía los fuelles de aire que mantenían el horno a 1200º C. Por otro, el martillo (mazo) de más de 300 kilos que era movido por otro eje de 8 metros de longitud. Destacan las 2 torres del edificio que conforman el “banzado”.
En 1918 fue adquirido por un emigrante de O Courel, que hizo fortuna en Cuba, cuya familia lo mantiene actualmente. Durante esos años se convirtió en una central hidroeléctrica que abastecía de luz a los pueblos cercanos hasta finales del siglo XX.
