El trabuquete route
Last Sunday, March 14, the Guardia Civil rescued a young man who could not continue on the Trabuquete route, in Guijo de Santa Bárbara. The young man was suffering from nausea, cramps and shortness of breath.
Agents of the Guardia Civil, belonging to the Post of Villanueva de la Vera (Cáceres) and the SEPRONA of Jarandilla de la Vera (Cáceres), started the route with the aim of reaching the young people, having to climb a rather rocky path full of vegetation, making the ascent difficult due to the absence of natural light.
During the ascent, the agents learned that a group of family and friends had reached the place where the young people were and had begun the descent, being located all of them, around 21:00 hours, about 6.5 kilometers away from the starting point of the route.
After checking the condition of the young man and providing them with drink and some food as well as warm clothing, the agents distributed flashlights and organized the descent to the nearest town. The descent was made difficult by the absence of natural light and the conditions of the terrain, in addition to the fact that the young man, who was being carried, was suffering from nausea, cramps and lack of air, which forced him to make continuous stops.
Jumps in the trabuquete
As I told you at the beginning of this post, I was very surprised by the amount of monuments that this town preserves. It must be true what they say that you have to go without expectations to places to be surprised. And it is not that I was not interested in this town, on the contrary, but I had seen hardly anything about it and I let myself be surprised.
And if Guijo de Santa Bárbara is famous for something, it is for the elaboration of liqueurs and jams. You will find in their stores herbal liqueurs, cherry liqueurs, raspberry liqueurs…. and the well-known Gloria liqueur. Besides, they also have a great variety of homemade jams. We bought the red fruit and fig jam. They were spectacular.
To enjoy the gastronomy of Verata, you can’t miss on your table some good migas, a rinran, a gazpacho or a lamb stew. Don’t you know where to eat these typical dishes? Well, here are some places:
